Everything you need to know about ethical energy brokerage, our grant programme, and the wider Hawley Energy ecosystem.

We supply electricity from 100% renewable sources, gas, and water. We act as your agent and work with our trusted energy broker to secure the best prices from the market on your behalf. To qualify for our grant programme, you need to sign up for electricity and gas supply. Water is optional.

To qualify for membership, your organisation must be based in Calderdale or have its head office in Calderdale. We welcome businesses, charities, public sector organisations, and any other type of organisation that meets this requirement.

Anchor Sites are key supporters of the Community Energy Fund. There are two routes: 1. Large Energy User — sign up for gas and electricity supply through a supplier arranged by Baseline Power. Your high energy consumption means your usage-based contribution (0.5p per kWh) significantly accelerates the growth of the grant fund. If you choose the opt-in (Calderdale Current) rate and complete 6 months from your supply start date, you become eligible for grants. 2. Direct Financial Contributor — make a direct financial contribution to the Community Energy Fund managed by the Community Foundation for Calderdale, without signing up for energy supply. This can be a one-off or recurring payment. Grant eligibility requires later signing up for gas and electricity via Baseline Power and completing 6 months from the supply start date on the usage-based model. Anchor Site status is open nationally. All Anchor Sites receive exclusive benefits including energy seminars, direct team access, networking events, and community chat groups.

Energy brokers like Calderdale Current act as intermediaries between businesses and energy suppliers. We negotiate competitive rates on your behalf, handle the switching process, and ensure you get the best deal. Unlike traditional brokers, we contribute 0.5p per kWh (inclusive of VAT) to a grant fund that helps local organisations invest in energy improvements.

Energy rates vary based on your consumption, contract length, and market conditions. Through our partnership with Baseline Power, we provide competitive quotes for electricity (100% renewable), gas, and water.

There are several ways: switching to a competitive supplier (which we help with), improving energy efficiency, installing renewable energy systems, and better energy management. After six months from your supply start date with Calderdale Current, and once the Community Foundation for Calderdale confirms the grant fund has reached £10,000, you become eligible to apply for grants to fund energy efficiency improvements.

We're the UK's first ethical energy broker with a community benefit model. All our electricity comes from 100% renewable sources. Every kWh of electricity you use contributes 0.5p (inclusive of VAT) to a grant fund managed independently by the Community Foundation for Calderdale.

To qualify for a grant, your organisation must be based in Calderdale (or have its head office here) and sign up for the supply of both electricity and gas through Calderdale Current. After six months from your supply start date, and once the Community Foundation for Calderdale confirms the grant fund has reached £10,000, you can apply for funding. Please note: the six-month qualifying period starts from the date your energy supply begins, not from when the contract is signed — there may be a short delay between the two.

The grant fund will open to applications once the Community Foundation for Calderdale confirms that the total fund balance has reached £10,000. This ensures there is a meaningful pot available to support impactful projects from the outset. Until the Community Foundation confirms this threshold has been met, no grant applications will be progressed.

Grant applications are managed entirely by the Community Foundation for Calderdale (CFFC). Hawley Energy and its staff have no input into the grant application or decision-making process. The only involvement from Hawley Energy is to confirm eligibility in terms of the applicant's supply contract term (i.e. that they have been on supply for at least 6 months), and on occasion to answer any technical questions that may arise from a grant application. All decisions on whether to approve, decline, or defer an application are made independently by CFFC.

No. You are free to choose any contractor or supplier for the works included in your grant application. Hawley Energy does not have to be one of the parties quoting for or carrying out the work. However, if you are unable to find a suitable contractor or would prefer Hawley Energy to act for you, we can submit an offer for the work as one of your options. The choice is entirely yours. All grant decisions are made independently by the Community Foundation for Calderdale, regardless of which contractor you choose.

Yes. If you are unable to find a suitable contractor or would prefer Hawley Energy to act for you, we can submit an offer for the work. However, there is no requirement to use Hawley Energy — you are free to choose any contractor you wish. All grant decisions are made independently by the Community Foundation for Calderdale. Hawley Energy has no input into the grant decision-making process.

PowerPacks provides energy project finance that removes capital barriers. You can get solar panels, heat pumps, or efficiency upgrades installed with no upfront cost, paying either per kWh or through hire purchase.

The switching process typically takes 2 to 4 weeks, depending on your current contract terms. We handle all the paperwork and coordination with suppliers, making it hassle-free for you.

We serve organisations based in Calderdale or with their head office in the borough, including Halifax, Brighouse, Elland, Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge, Todmorden, and surrounding areas. However, Anchor Site status is open nationally.

Contract terms vary based on your needs and market conditions. To become eligible for grant funding, you'll need to remain a customer for at least six months from your supply start date.

The six-month qualifying period starts from the date your energy supply begins (the supply start date), not from the date you sign the contract. There may be a short delay between signing and supply starting — typically 2 to 4 weeks while the switch is processed. The Community Foundation for Calderdale will confirm your eligibility based on your supply start date.

The flat contribution is an opt-out model where, instead of the usage-based 0.5p per kWh, you pay a set figure into the Community Energy Fund. This figure is confirmed by Baseline Power for the duration of your agreement of supply terms and remains fixed throughout. Any changes to the flat contribution amount require a new written agreement with Baseline Power. Customers on this model are not eligible for grants.
